You may know Hargrave as the keyboard/guitar player in indiepop band FRANKLIN. He toured the world with them and co-wrote smash hit Causes (2016), but left the band in 2017 to pursue a solo career as his alter ego, Maurice Amour.

His debut album was then released in early 2019. Under that moniker, Hargrave’s talent was picked up by BBC Introducing, Virgin Media and The Pigeon Detectives. He scored a smash hit with Colours in the Dark and played a whopping 26 shows in Australia, totalling 87 shows all over the world in 2019. Over the years, he wrote music for both himself as well as other artists as a ghost writer, totalling over 40 million streams on Spotify to date.

Hargrave is a sensitive, deep soul with an unstoppable urge to express emotion and pour his heart out- undoubtedly, that’s one of the reasons Maurice Amour appealed to such a wide audience. So when tragedy struck Hargrave’s family and his brother died of cancer in 2016, at the age of only 21, a change of pace was inevitable. This heartbreaking event would be the prelude to the name change and the birth of SAD LUV. Hargrave packed up his things, left FRANKLIN and moved to Cornwall so that the avid surfer and traveler could be closer to the ocean.

“SAD LUV is about losing someone close to you,” Hargrave explains. “I write a lot about that situation and about other situations that are sad, while I search for happiness.”
