LUKAS BATTEAU
Melancholy, melodic, unpolished and emphatic: some words from an English magazine
describing the music of the Dutch artist Lukas Batteau. Since the release of his first EP,
Lukas Batteau has performed on many stages, like Paradiso and Melkweg in Amsterdam,
Ekko and Tivoli in his hometown Utrecht.
He even toured the US, playing at the famous New York club The Livingroom. He has
opened for international artists like Tracy Bonham, Gomez and Megafaun. Dutch music
magazine 3voor12 named him the Dutch Ben Howard, but others sometimes hear Eddie
Vedder from Into The Wild.
Lukas was born to an American father and Dutch mother, and spent his childhood in
South Korea.
People may recognize the soothing intro of his single Telescope, off his 2018 Nashville
recorded album Slow Traveler, as it landed on heavy rotation Spotify playlists, gaining well
over 6M streams.
As the pandemic forced artists into an unwelcome hiatus, Lukas sought refuge in his music,
spending as much time as possible in the studio, working on his third full-length album,
together with longtime friend and producer Steve Savage.
It has led to a series of dream-inspired songs, centered on the feeling of estrangement and
isolation that the pandemic lockdowns have instilled on us. While we are sleeping, the world
is moving ever faster around us, but to us it seems out of reach, the lives of others
happening in a faraway distance.
